Weekly message 9/13/2020

 Happy Sunday,

The second participation question is due this evening at 11:59 pm. Please make sure that you have communicated with your teammates and are answering with the fun facts you learned about your teammates. Remember, your teammates cannot see your response to the participation question, only the grader and I can see your responses. 

We will continue the unit on reactor theory on Monday and Tuesday.  On Wednesday, we will start the unit on coagulation/flocculation.

  • RFQ response: 9/18/2020 at 11:59 pm

 A number of you have reported problems accessing the videos from LON-CAPA.  I would suggest that if you are having trouble, to try changing browsers. I use FireFox and haven't had any trouble. A student reported the same problem, but when they changed to Edge it worked.

In Firefox, I get this screen when I click on the link in LON-CAPA:


I, then, click open site in a new window, which takes me to the YouTube video. I can make all the YouTube videos public if that is easier, and you just have to go to my YouTube channel.

Also, all of the videos are publicly available on my YouTube channel.  Just search Susan J Masten.

Happy Saturday! I hope all of you are staying well.  We now have less than one month left of classes! On Monday we will take a break from regular lecture and do a group activity.  As such, Monday's lecture will not be recorded. On Wednesday we will start a unit on ion exchange. Following that we'll look briefly at absorption and then membrane processes. We'll finish with residual management. Now here is a photo from the absolute coolest plant I've ever toured. The Henriksdal Wastewater Treatment Plant is in Stockholm, Sweden and it is build within a mountain. Yes, totally carved out into a mountain. The workers use bicycles to get around the tunnels (which are about 9 km long). Happy Sunday, Well we don't have a blue sky today, but at least it isn't raining (now)! As we move into several units (sedimentation and granular media filtration) that are based on fluid mechanics, I thought I'd give you this bit of information I gleaned this morning from colleagues on Twitter and how prairie dog burrows are better ventilated than most classrooms . Happy Monday! I just realized that I did not send out my weekly message this weekend. Where did the weekend go?  As usual, here are the weekly reminders: Sunday 11/22: Participation question is due at 11:59 pm. However, because I forgot to send out the weekly reminder, I'll reset it to Monday 11/23 at 11:59 pm. I'm looking forward to reading everyone responses.
