Happy Sunday! I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! I will admit, it was nice to have a few days off. It was also great to view your video presentations of the water tower, the history of water treatment/distribution, and the lead and copper rule. The highlight was seeing many of you. It made me realize how much I miss being in the classroom (not that I really needed a reminder, but this really hit home!) Grad assistantship opportunity (MSU):  We are interested in hiring four graduate student assistants to collect wastewater samples to monitor the prevalence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This work is planned to be completed by two teams of two individuals. Work will be conducted primarily outdoors, potentially during inclement weather. Specific work tasks include: Prepare composite samplers for wastewater sample collection (lift sampler from sewer, set programming, pack sampler with ice, and reinstall); collect samples from composite samplers (lift samplers from sewer, retrieve sample container, replace with clean sample container, and reinstall sampler); deliver wastewater samples to laboratory; inspect composite samplers to ensure proper operation and conduct routine maintenance (e.g. replace sample tubing); follow standard operating procedures to ensure work complies with safety and laboratory guidance. Happy Saturday! I hope all of you are staying well.  We now have less than one month left of classes! On Monday we will take a break from regular lecture and do a group activity.  As such, Monday's lecture will not be recorded. On Wednesday we will start a unit on ion exchange. Following that we'll look briefly at absorption and then membrane processes. We'll finish with residual management. Now here is a photo from the absolute coolest plant I've ever toured. The Henriksdal Wastewater Treatment Plant is in Stockholm, Sweden and it is build within a mountain. Yes, totally carved out into a mountain. The workers use bicycles to get around the tunnels (which are about 9 km long).  Hi all, I know I'm late sending this out and I apologize. I know it's been a long week, especially with assignments/projects due in ENE 480, 481, 483 and whatever other classes you may have. Hopefully, the grace periods have been helpful and alleviated at least some of the stress.  This week we will study adsorption processes. I just posted the notes.
