Weekly Message 9/27/2020
Happy Sunday,
I hope you all have been having a great week and are remaining healthy. It's been a long one, but I was able to get in a few really nice walks (my way of decompressing and destressing; I hope you all have found productive ways to do the same). I thought you might like these photos from the Children's and Healing Gardens on campus.
On Monday, we will continue the Lime-Soda ash problem that we began on Friday. If you weren't "in class" on Friday, it would be good to watch the YouTube video before class on Monday.
On Tuesday, I will give an overview of the FE and PE exams and then we'll talk about the Mini-Design Project. Both sets of PowerPoint slides will be posted on LON-CAPA.
On Wednesday, we will finish the unit on Lime Soda ash softening by discussing water stabilization. If you have a chance, it would be beneficial to watch these short virtual water treatment plant tours: Ames, Iowa; Plainfield Charter Township, Michigan. If we have time, we'll take a look at at these in class this week.
And as usual, here are your weekly reminders:
Participation: due today by 11:59 pm (please complete even though I wrote here what we will do on Tuesday, so that you get credit).
Homework 3 Coagulation: Due Wednesday 9/30 by 11:59 pm (as discussed in class, I am moving all due dates to Wednesdays of the same week).
Homework 4 Lime soda ash Softening: Due Wednesday 10/7 by 11:59 pm
Tutorial Assignment 1 (drawing of a paddle wheel flocculator based on provided specifications): Due Wednesday 10/7 by 11:59 pm.
Office Hours MW 4-5 pm. Zoom link is in the weekly email message. If anyone has questions, please ask.All the best,
Dr. Masten
