Internships and Job opportunities

Grad assistantship opportunity (MSU):  We are interested in hiring four graduate student assistants to collect wastewater samples to monitor the prevalence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This work is planned to be completed by two teams of two individuals. Work will be conducted primarily outdoors, potentially during inclement weather. Specific work tasks include: Prepare composite samplers for wastewater sample collection (lift sampler from sewer, set programming, pack sampler with ice, and reinstall); collect samples from composite samplers (lift samplers from sewer, retrieve sample container, replace with clean sample container, and reinstall sampler); deliver wastewater samples to laboratory; inspect composite samplers to ensure proper operation and conduct routine maintenance (e.g. replace sample tubing); follow standard operating procedures to ensure work complies with safety and laboratory guidance.

This work will take place according to a pre-existing schedule which will include working on Sundays. The position is anticipated to take 5-9 hours per week. Please contact Ryan Julien (julienry@msu.edu) with questions.

Job opportunity: The State of Michigan has several (quite a few, actually) job openings for environmental and civil engineers. Several have closing dates in the next few days. Internship opportunity

Black and Veatch is starting the recruitment process for intern candidates for Black & Veatch’s Water Technology Group. The internship would be focused on drinking water treatment, but there’s always an opportunity to get them involved in both water and wastewater projects. Ideally, we’d like to find someone enrolled in the MS program or PhD program. We would greatly appreciate your recommendations for any students that are eager to learn and would be a good fit for consulting.

Here is a link to the open requisite. It notes Kansas City as the location, but with COVID-19 they are working remotely so an intern could be located outside of Kansas City. Email me if you would like additional information
